Local meal services deliver delicious fare, with an environmental twist

Meal services that deliver prepared or prepped food to your door offer interesting menus, save trips to the grocery store, and answer the question of “What’s for dinner?” before it’s even asked.

Those are three major benefits. And if you order local, you can chalk up two more: You’ll support local businesses, and you can avoid the wasteful ice packs and plastic packaging of non-local services by placing a cooler for deliveries out front.

Colorado boasts a host of such companies. Among them, as recently described by 5280 magazine:

Casa Crobu: You can’t get more authentic than these Italian meals made from recipes of owner Mario Crobu’s mother. Among the companies’ offerings are mushroom and truffle oil lasagna, veal parmigiana, and culurgiones (ravioli stuffed with potato puree and Pecorino cheese).

Easy Entrees By Silver Spoons: You’ll receive prepped ingredients, spices, and recipes for meals to cook, that include chicken pot pie, bacon-wrapped bangers and mash with caramelized onion gravy, and caramel butter tarts. The company delivers within a 40-mile radius of its Littleton location.

Spade & Spoon: Featuring food from “hyperlocal bakers, farmers, and makers,” according to 5280, this company delivers anywhere from Fort Collins to Lone Tree. You can buy a Family Classics Box for $113 that includes three meals, each serving four people, among other offerings.

SupperBell: These dishes “inspired by the culinary stylings of chef Frank Bonanno” of Mizuna fame come ready to reheat – no preparation necessary. Enjoy steak marsala with mashed potatoes and green beans, almond-crusted salmon cakes, and more, with cost per serving ranging from $4-20.

YaYe Organics: For vegetarians and those with food sensitivities, YaYe Organics is the place to order. The company delivers plant-based, organic, and gluten-free meals, including beet burgers, ratatouille with coconut milk polenta, and smoked tomato and roasted veggie frittatas. The cost of three days of lunches and dinners begins at $97.
