As the crisp autumn air sweeps through Colorado, the state’s breathtaking landscapes transform into a vibrant tapestry of gold and yellow accented with reds and oranges. Whether you’re a seasoned “leaf peeper” or a casual nature lover, the state has stunning locations that offer unforgettable views of fall’s colorful display. Here, a look at some of the RMCC’s team’s favorite leaf peeping spots…

Broker Amanda Maxwell likes heading to Summit County, north of Silverthorne. “There are several valleys along the Blue River running north that light up in the fall with the most vibrant and outrageous colors. All the way from Silverthorne to Kremmling is the most picturesque drive in the fall.”

Kristine Holvick, broker with the KREIDER | HOLVICK team, recommends driving up through Mestaa’Ėhehe Pass (formerly known as Squaw Pass) in Clear Creek County. This high mountain road reaches an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet, starting in Evergreen and ending in Idaho Springs. The best time to see fall foliage is mid- to late-September.

Or, take a short drive north to Rocky Mountain National Park. RMCC Marketing Coordinator Mia Klosterman suggests Trail Ridge Road as a prime leaf peeping spot. It’s a 48-mile stretch of Highway 34, running from Estes Park to Grand Lake. Boasting stunning views, it can also be a bit of a challenging drive due to few guardrails and limited shoulders.

You can also head south for a breathtaking adventure in the fall. “The largest aspen grove in Colorado, and one of the largest in the country, is a clone in Kebler Pass located in the West Elk Mountains near Crested Butte,” says broker Shannon Gillespie.

And, staying local in the Mile High City can’t be overlooked! RMCC broker Christine Dupont-Patz suggests visiting Park Hill – “especially Montview and 17th between Colorado and Monaco” to view some spectacular autumnal colors.
