Winter in Colorado isn’t only about skiing down the slopes. Ice skating offers a frosty fun alternative that’s perfect for all ages, whether you’re perfecting a triple salchow (“SAL-cow”) or simply learning to stay upright. It’s a refreshing way to enjoy the cold, spend time outdoors, and create lasting memories without the steep price tag of ski gear. So, lace up your skates and get ready to glide! From 5280, here are some top spots to get your ice skating fix this winter:

  • McGregor Skate (Downtown Denver): Nestled in the heart of downtown Denver, McGregor Skate offers prime skating under the glow of holiday lights, right across from Coors Field. Admission is $15 or $6 if you bring your own skates. Kids skate for $9, and little ones under two are free! Special events like “Skate with the Avs” sweeten the deal, making this the perfect winter outing.
  • Downtown Denver Rink (Downtown Denver): Enjoy free admission at this central skating hub in Skyline Park. The Downtown Denver Rink offers seasonal skating from November to February. Skate rentals are $11 ($9 for kids), and fourth graders can borrow skates for free. Open late on weekends, it’s ideal for a night out under the city lights.
  • Parker Ice Trail (Discovery Park, Parker): More of a winding ice path than a rink, this seasonal spot offers a unique skating experience with plenty of space for beginners to cling to the rails. Open from late November through February, admission is $10 ($8 for kids), and skate rentals are $4.
  • Rink at Belmar (Lakewood): Skate beneath twinkling lights at the Rink at Belmar, open seasonally through late January. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for kids, or $6 if you bring your own skates. Fire pits and heaters are available for chilly spectators.
  • Old Town Skate (Steinbaugh Pavilion, Louisville): Located in historic downtown Louisville, this skating destination offers a charming, larger outdoor rink surrounded by quaint streets and shops. Admission is $10, or $5 if you bring your own skates, and little ones under four skate for free. Open seasonally in December through February, this rink provides the perfect family-friendly atmosphere.
  • Edge Ice Arena (Littleton): Open year-round, this facility offers skating for $7 ($6 for seniors, $5 for juniors, and $3 for children under five) with rental prices as low as $3. Beginner-friendly skates are available for kids with double-runners, making the learning curve a bit easier!

Whether you’re skating under city lights, surrounded by historic charm, or enjoying an ice trail adventure, Denver (and nearby) has plenty of options to make your winter magical. So, bundle up, grab your skates, and hit the ice!
