Every child deserves the chance to play, explore, and let their imagination soar—and thanks to thoughtful design and community investment, the Denver metro area is home to several playgrounds where inclusivity is built right into the fun. These accessible spaces ensure that kids of all abilities can swing, spin, climb, and connect. From adaptive ziplines to sensory-rich surfaces, here are five standout playgrounds that truly raise the bar for playtime.
- LuBird’s Playground(Aurora): Tucked outside Stanley Marketplace, this playground was born from love and advocacy in 2021, with LuBird’s Light Foundation leading the charge to create a joyful, therapeutic space for kids of all abilities, featuring wheelchair-friendly ramps, sensory equipment, and supportive swings.
- Possibilities Playground at Butterfield Crossing Park(Castle Rock): This vibrant, fully accessible playground emerged from a major community effort, raising over $1 million to bring the project to life. Highlights include a tactile sensory wall, adaptive swings and spinners, and a 50-foot accessible zip line that delivers high-flying fun for all.
- Clement Park(Littleton): Already a hub for sports and outdoor concerts, Clement Park added a major inclusive upgrade in 2019. The sprawling playground now includes wheelchair-accessible paths, sensory activities, and supportive swings that encourage everyone to join the fun. It’s one of the largest inclusive playgrounds in the region, and one of the most beloved.
- Nature Play(City Park): Newly constructed, this playground sits in City Park outside of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Admission is free, and the area was designed as a space for people of all abilities with ADA access.
- Veterans Memorial Park(Commerce City): At just 2.6 acres, this park proves you don’t need massive space to make a big impact. Smooth rubber surfaces make mobility easy, while adaptive swings, a wheelchair-friendly merry-go-round, and a nature play area with hollow logs and a sandbox invite creative exploration for every child.
From urban centers to suburban corners, these playgrounds reflect what’s possible when design meets compassion. Whether it’s spinning, sliding, or splashing, inclusive play in Denver isn’t just an idea, it’s a reality worth celebrating.
