Need a cozy winter escape? Look no further than Denver’s Public Library branches, where books, community, and innovation come together. With 27 locations citywide, DPL offers much more than rows of novels. From makerspaces with 3D printers to classes, events, and streaming services, there’s something for everyone.
But, the spotlight is on the newly renovated Central Library—Denver’s “mothership” at 10 W 14th Ave. After four years of partial closure, the Central Library has reopened its doors following a $69 million transformation. A mix of historic architecture and modern upgrades makes this massive space worth a visit. The first-floor “Commons,” which functions as a living room, welcomes guests with plenty of room to relax, read, or connect with others. Teens now have their own dedicated space—clearly marked by a bright pink line, a no-adults zone except for staff—and a newly designed young adult collection just outside its borders.
For events and epic views, don’t miss the “Park View Room.” Lined with two stories of glass, it offers stunning sights of Civic Center Park and will be bookable for press events, parties, and more. Meanwhile, grand staircases replace the outdated escalators, creating an elegant flow between floors.
Beyond Central’s upgrades, Denver’s neighborhood branches continue to shine with creative programs and family-friendly resources. From story times and computer labs to unique collections and community spaces, DPL proves that libraries are more relevant than ever.
So, when winter boredom strikes, warm up at your nearest branch. It’s the perfect spot to get lost in a story, find inspiration, get creative and crafty, or learn something new!
