Recent college graduates looking for the perfect city to start their careers should consider Denver, which has just been ranked as the second-best city for new grads in a study by Zumper. The study analyzed 100 of the largest U.S. cities, focusing on median rents, job opportunities, and social metrics, such as the population of young adults and the number of single people.
Denver’s high ranking is a testament to its restaurants per capita and “vibrant social scene.” The Mile High City was marked as an attractive destination for young professionals.
Minneapolis took the top spot, boasting affordable rents and a low unemployment rate. Seattle, Columbus, and San Francisco rounded out the top five, each offering a mix of high median incomes and strong job opportunities. On the flip side, Laredo, TX, ranked lowest due to its small population of young graduates and low median income.
As The New York Times says, New York City – which was ranked 20th overall – “had the highest median rent of any metro in the study” but scored well for the “largest population of residents between the ages of 18 and 34,” as well as median income.
Denver’s silver-medal ranking highlights its appeal as a city that balances opportunity and lifestyle. With its thriving economy and vibrant cultural scene, it’s no wonder that Denver is a top choice for those stepping into the professional world.
