There’s nothing better than a leisurely brunch to get into the pace of summer. And let’s face it, a tasty frittata, a few delicious slabs of bacon and a mimosa—light on the orange juice, heavy on the champagne—can do wonders for your mood.
The good news is that if you live in the metro area, you have more options of great brunch destinations than a breakfast chef has eggs.
The Denver Business Journal recently evaluated the top brunch destinations by using customer reviews and ratings found on the restaurant reservation website Open Table. Their top 5 findings, in order:
- Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox, 1215 20th St., LoDo/Five Points: An outdoor patio, live music and bottomless mimosas make for “one of the coolest vibes in Denver,” one reviewer crowed. Don’t miss Ophelia’s jalepeno cornbread.
- Death & Co., 1280 25th St., Five Points/RINO: No surprise, the ambiance at Death & Co. is, well, to die for: “Camel colored leather, navy blue walls, white and gold tables, and beautiful plants throughout the space made the overall effect of this restaurant completely drool-worthy,” writes one reviewer. Their craft cocktail menu will also set you swooning.
- Cedar 65 Bistro & Gallery, 1338 County Road 65, Evergreen: “Holy moly!” writes a fan. Need we say more? The Mediterranean food served here is made from scratch, and customers laud the exceptional service in this special spot in the foothills.
- Tupelo Honey, 1650 Wewatta St., LoDo/Union Station: You’ll enjoy a Southern-style brunch, complete with bountiful biscuits, fried chicken and grits. And let’s be honest, how can a place named after the classic Van Morrison song be bad?
- Ellyngton’s at The Brown Palace, 321 17th St., downtown: For a swanky, white-tablecloth choice, Ellyngton’s is the best bet in town. Expect a pricey bill, but you’re not likely to find a brunch buffet that offers both sirloin and sushi anywhere else this side of the Mississippi.
