There are countless reasons to live in Colorado, but we’re guessing you’ve never thought of this one: property taxes. Turns out, Colorado has the third lowest effective property tax rate in the country.
According to ATTOM Data Solutions, as reported by the Denver Post, Colorado’s rate is .51% versus an average 1.16% nationally. When that rate is applied to the cost of a home, our property tax bill averages $2,241 versus $3,498 across the country.
If that doesn’t impress you, consider the plight of our East Coast compatriots: Homeowners in New Jersey pay an eye-catching average of $8,780, and those in Connecticut pay $7,222.
In Colorado, Eagle County had the highest average property tax (of $6,022), “reflecting an average home price of $1 million,” notes the Post. Fremont County and Pueblo counties had the lowest at $756 and $910 respectively.
