Chaffee Park
About Chaffee Park
Named after a U.S. Senator and one of Denver’s founders, Jerome B. Chaffee, Chaffee Park is located north of I-70 and east of Federal Boulevard. Developed in the 1940s, the area was originally home to many second-generation Italian-Americans who attended the nearby Guardian Angels Catholic Church of Denver. Today, residents are largely Hispanic or Latino and the neighborhood retains a working class feel. Modest one-story homes typical of the post-war period comprise the area and are offered at prices relatively low to the overall city. Residents enjoy Zuni Park (interestingly, the park named Chaffee is located in the Sunnyside neighborhood), which offers picnic areas, a basketball court, playground, and baseball field and hosts the popular Skyline Festival, featuring live music, food trucks, children’s games and more. While retail and restaurant establishments are scant, residents enjoy the bustling offerings of nearby Sunnyside and Berkeley, two of Denver’s hottest neighborhoods. Although Chaffee Park has yet to undergo the dramatic changes of those neighborhoods, its easy access to downtown Denver suggests exciting possibilities in the future.
