Get Your Belongings Under Control
It’s the perfect time to narrow down your belongings and be realistic about what will make the move with you. Everything you aren’t using should be sold or donated. Want a great tip for kids who have a hard time letting go? Buy a photo album and let them take photos of the things they’ve outgrown, along with photos of the old house, and create a keepsake journal. This makes the move less traumatic for them and keeps them occupied while you pack.
Disconnect and Reconnect
Whatever your reason for relocating, you’ll need utilities and services installed at the new house. Make sure you notify the post office and service providers at your old place of the date when you’re leaving town as well. Making a “master list” of chores that need to be done at both ends is a great visual reminder. It’s also a good idea to note both the date and service appointment times on a calendar, along with contact numbers of the companies.
