Granted, listing your home during the holidays is not ideal, but sometimes it’s a necessity when job changes or financial deadlines loom, among other reasons. The good news is that it’s a seller’s market — and with a few season-specific tips, you can breeze into the new year with the home sale behind you.
Some suggestions:
Reduce the holiday decorations: Skip the holiday figurines and outdoor decor. Keeping your home de-cluttered shows off its size and presents a cleaner look. In addition, your home is less likely to offend potential buyers who observe different holidays. Simplifying your decorations will also make it easier for them to imagine the house as their own.
Use sprigs of greenery and other natural elements: While a large Christmas tree might be too overpowering, you can still highlight the beautiful elements of your house – a staircase, windows, or fireplace — with natural wreathes, pine cones or wicker baskets.
Decorate with candles: Instead of multi-colored lights, purchase some beautiful candles to display around the house (but make sure they’re unlit during showings).
Add color: Take advantage of the colors of the season to brighten up your home. Red appeals to the emotions more than green, so use more of it. Consider adding some simple gold, silver or even blue to your decor.
Offer edibles: Placing a plate of holiday cookies on the counter is a wonderful gesture and will make potential buyers feel more invited.
