Highlands local boys Grant Williams and Ray Childs recently opened Small Wonder Food and Wine in the former Coral Room location. This little bistro, located in the shopette at Highlands Square, has seen Grant behind the bar serving up some of the best cocktails in Highlands for nearly a decade. You will still find him behind the bar, but taking on a much bigger role as co-owner.
Grant says the main focus is great service. You will find this to be true the minute you step in the front door. There is a great mix of locals and destination diners that fill the bar seats and the dining tables. Friendly conversation and light banter is the dish of the day when you find yourself sitting at the bar. On those lovely warm, blue sky Colorado days the choice seats are the comfortable outdoor tables, where you can watch the comings and goings of the neighborhood while enjoying your meal.
Co-owner Ray Childs says “the place has been undergoing a metamorphosis culminating with an appropriate name change. Small Wonder is committed to a thoughtfully crafted selection of wines and beverages paired with the finest locally sourced foods we can find”. A great example of this is the fabulous goat cheese from Henderson’s Broken Shovels Farm, one of the only non-GMO no-kill goat farms in the country. The Bistro is also actively supporting other Highlands shops by featuring fish from Seafood Landing and a St. Killian’s Cheese Plate.
Try Grant’s favorite dish, Pork and Polenta, with a glass of Finca El Origin Malbec. Stop by for happy hour from 4 to 6 daily. A delicious brunch menu is offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 2.
