Today’s tip: Filling in your thinning lawn
Has the heat of summer left your lawn with dry or dead spots? Now is the time to plant grass seed in needed places. Experts advise seeding grass 45 days before the first frost, so begin early September and choose cool-season grass seed, such as rye and bluegrass. Mow your grass closely, then rake the top soil in bare or thin areas to loosen the soil. Distribute the seed evenly (best to use a hand-held or rotary spreader) and cover with a thin layer of soil to keep the seed from washing away. Wait for results, within 7 to 21 days.
