Making the most of your storage space

Denver real estateSomehow, we never have enough space. Drawers, closets, storage rooms, garages…no matter how plentiful these spaces are, we manage to fill them to overflowing faster than we can say, “Now where did I put that …?

How can we maximize the space we have? Home Edition offers some tips:

Give every item a home: If you store things haphazardly, you will find yourself living in chaos, no matter how much storage space you have. Designate a spot for each type of item — for example, hair products, linens, old clothes, etc. — and you will feel more in control.

Place frequently used items in the front: Cabinets and shelves can feel cavernous when you’re trying to locate an item that’s been pushed to the back. Place the items you use the most in the front and avoid this frustration.

Install sliding shelves: This is the best answer to the problem mentioned above. With sliding shelves, everything is visible at once —no more shuffling items around to find what’s hiding in the back.

Discard: When was the last time you purged old shampoos, expired medicines and so on? There’s no time like the present: Select one closet per day and remove anything you haven’t used in the past year. You’ll be amazed at how much space this opens up in your home.
