How to House Hunt with Your Kids

Children are adorable, loveable, and cute. But when they’re young and running around as on a home tour, you can become frazzled.  Yet sometimes you have to bring them with you to showings.  We Denver real estate agents understand.  We’ve spent a lot of time working with families.  So here are some great home showing “rules” you can give your kids so you can still have quality viewings of the homes.

.
Rule #1: No Touching Please

Many kids will naturally treat a home like a play house.  So to them, those pretty objects on the table are meant to be touched.  But even if something is accidentally broken, your agent is actually held responsible.  Let your kids know people live in the home. And just as your kids wouldn’t want strangers touching their stuff, they shouldn’t either.

.
Rule #2: Stay in Sight of Mom & Dad

Ahhh…hide and seek.  In a great home, it’s hard for kids to resist racing around from room-to-room.  And take it from us Denver real estate agents, it’s tough for parents to concentrate on the tour when they’re desperately straining to echo-locate those tiny footsteps. So we recommend telling your kids to stay in your sight at all times.  They’ll even be less likely to get hurt as well.

.
Rule #3: Bring Music, Video Games & Snacks

Ok parents…this rule is really more for you.  As you’re visiting multiple homes, it’s easy for kids to get tired and bored.  So we recommend bringing distracting toys like video games, music with headphones or dolls.  If they’re getting fussy, pulling out some snacks can save the day (just make sure the snacks can’t leave fingerprints).

.
When all else fails…bargain with your kids!  Letting them know before you’re planning to take them to the park or out for ice cream if they behave, they may become little angels that impress your Denver real estate agent.  And after touring homes with your kids…YOU deserve that treat too!
