We love Denver for its many parks that allow us to shake off the doldrums of the day and enjoy nature. So who’s to say our dogs don’t appreciate exactly the same thing?

Dogs crave a place to run free, and thankfully, the metro area is filled with parks that allow them to do just that. Recently, the website The Dog People listed its favorite Denver-metro dog parks, listed below:

Berkeley Dog Park: While there isn’t much shade here, this park offers “separate areas for active and less-active dogs.” Another bonus is the walking trail around nearby Berkeley Lake, where you can let your pooches parade after they’re finished at the dog park. CO-95, Denver, 80212

Railyard Dog Park: Watch your dog from a shaded seating area at this Denver dog park close to downtown. 2121 19th St. Denver, 80202

Stapleton Off Leash Dog Park (also known as Greenway Dog Park):  A popular place to let your pet run free, this is a huge park adjacent to several walking trails. Street parking nearby is plentiful. 2002 Spruce St., Denver 80238

Lowry Dog Park: This well-kept park offers shaded seating for humans and “fun obstacles” for pets, complete with three separate areas for “low energy, high energy, and agility.” Yosemite Way and E. 4th Place, Denver 80230

Grandview Dog Park:  Enjoy the beautiful scenery while your dog tackles the agility course and hydrates at the running water spigot. The park offers separate areas for large and small pets. 7500 E. Quincy Ave., Aurora 80015

Cherry Creek Off Leash Dog Area: Although it costs $2 for a full-day admission and $9 to park, this dog haven just inside Cherry Creek State Park offers 107 acres and includes a creek and shallow swimming area, where Fidos of all shapes and sizes can get their frolic on. S. Entrance Rd. Aurora 80015

Wynetka Ponds Bark Park: This park has two water fountains, a gazebo picnic area for two-legged visitors, and “one big, open space for dogs to run and play.” Heaven for man and beast. 5875 S. Lowell Blvd., Littleton, 80123
