Colorado continually ranks as one of the fittest states in the nation. So it’s no surprise that biking is popular here. It is news, however, that four Colorado cities have landed on Bicycling magazine’s top 50 bicycling cities in the US. They are:
Boulder, at No. 6
Fort Collins, No. 9
Denver, No. 12
Colorado Springs, No. 45
In designing the list, Bicycling magazine looked for cities that “support a vibrant bike culture.” This includes encouraging bike-friendly elements, such as bike lanes, bike racks and bike boulevards. The magazine also considered the amount of money a city spends on cycling, as well as the number of “smart, savvy bike shops.”
Surprisingly, New York ranked at the top of the list. Chicago, Minneapolis, Portland and Washington, D.C. rounded out the top 5.
