Want to find the most up-to-date color for your home decor? This year, think coral.
Living Coral has been designated the Color of the Year by Pantone – and the company is waxing poetic about it.
“Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of …Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, … Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.”
And that’s not all. The color is also “a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.”
None of that tells you what the color is exactly, of course. Pantone calls it “coral with golden undertones.” We call it a shade somewhere between tangerine and tomato. (Then again, we’re not poets.)
Pantone has designated one color as the Color of the Year for the past 20 years. The company’s color choices influence everything from home furnishings to fashion to packaging and graphic design.
Notes the company website: “The Color of the Year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color influences.”
So expect coral to turn up on everything under—and above—the sea this year.
